Chapter 1: Motion

Brief: Motion describes how objects move – speed, velocity, acceleration, and equations of motion.

Formulas & Explanations:

  1. Speed – how fast an object moves:

 s = \frac{s}{t}

  • = distance, = time.

  1. Velocity – speed with direction:

 v = \frac{\text{displacement}}{t}
  1. Acceleration – change of velocity per unit time:

 a = \frac{v - u}{t}

  1. Equations of uniformly accelerated motion:

  • 1st:

 v = u + at

  • 2nd:

 s = ut + \tfrac{1}{2}at^2

  • 3rd:

 v^2 - u^2 = 2as

  1. Motion under gravity (replace a with g):

  • Downwards:

 v = u + gt, \quad s = ut + \tfrac{1}{2}gt^2

  • Upwards:

 v = u - gt, \quad s = ut - \tfrac{1}{2}gt^2

Chapter 2: Force

Brief: Force makes objects move, stop, or change direction.

Formulas & Explanations:

1. Newton’s 2nd Law:

 F = ma

  • Force is mass × acceleration.

 2. Momentum:

 p = mv

  • Product of mass & velocity.

 3. Impulse:

 I = Ft = \Delta p
  • Sudden push/pull = change in momentum.

 4. Law of Conservation of Momentum:

 m_{1}v_{1} + m_{2}v_{2} = m_{1}v_{1}^{\prime} + m_{2}v_{2}^{\prime}

    • Mass of two objects (before and after collision).

    • Example: Car A and Car B colliding.

  • v1,v2

    • Initial velocities of the objects (before collision).

  • v1′,v2′

    • Final velocities of the objects (after collision).

    • The prime (′) indicates after the event.

Chapter 3: Gravitation

Brief: Explains how all objects attract each other.

Formulas & Explanations:

 1. Universal Gravitation:

 F = G \frac{m_1 m_2}{r^2}

  • Force of attraction between two masses.

 2. Acceleration due to gravity:

 g = \frac{GM}{R^2}

  • Value of g = 9.8 m/s² on Earth.

 3. Orbital Velocity of satellite:

 v_0 = \sqrt{\frac{GM}{R}}

 4. Escape Velocity:

 v_e = \sqrt{2gR} = \sqrt{2} v_0

 5. Law of Floatation:

 \text{Weight of floating body} = \text{Weight of liquid displaced}

 6. Centripetal Force:

 F_c = \frac{mv^2}{r}

  • Keeps body in circular path.

Chapter 4: Work, Power, Energy

Brief: Work is done when a force moves an object.

Formulas & Explanations:

  1. Work:

 W = F \cdot d \cos\theta

  1. Kinetic Energy:

 KE = \tfrac{1}{2} mv^2
  1. Potential Energy:

 PE = mgh
  1. Power:

 P = \frac{W}{t}

Chapter 5: Sound

Brief: Sound travels as a wave and requires a medium.

Formulas & Explanations:

  1. Speed of Sound:

 v = f \lambda
  • = frequency, λ\lambda = wavelength.

  1. Echo Condition: Minimum distance = 17.2 m.

  2. Frequency & Time Period:

 f = \frac{1}{T}
