🏛️ Brief Introduction
Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan, is famously known as the “Pink City” for its rose-colored buildings. It was founded in 1727 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, who shifted his capital from Amber (Amer) to a newly planned city. The city was named Jaipur after him.
Initially, the area around Jaipur was part of the Dhundhar region. Jaipur was one of the first planned cities of India, designed by architect Vidyadhar Bhattacharya based on Shilpa Shastra (ancient Indian architecture principles).
In 1876, to welcome the Prince of Wales (later King Edward VII), the entire city was painted pink – a symbol of hospitality – and since then Jaipur has been called the Pink City. Today, it is also part of the Golden Triangle tourist circuit (Delhi–Agra–Jaipur) and is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage City.
